ALICE AND FOSTER BAILEY established the Beacon in 1922 as a magazine of esoteric philosophy. They conceived it as a forum for esotericists to contribute their visions, share their experiences and develop their ideas about the evolution of humanity and the unfolding Plan for our world.

THE BEACON maintains that the principles of the Ageless Wisdom form a true basis for a spiritual and practical way of life in the modern world. What are these principles? In part, they are embodied in the highest perceptions of spiritual truth that humanity has achieved throughout the ages. For example: that the basic quality and energy of the universe is love; that humanity and the world - indeed all objective states - veil an inner, spiritual reality; that the law of cause and effect conditions all action and circumstance; that creativity, inspired by the soul, is the key to progress and liberation.

AS WE approach the end of the 20th Century it is abundantly clear that an ability to understand and work wisely with these principles, and the inner forces and energies that embody them, has never been more important. At the Beacon we are therefore committed to spread the knowledge of these principles together with an understanding of the many ways in which they can be, and are being, applied today.

BEACON ARTICLES explore a wide range of perspectives on the inner and outer life of humanity. Recent subjects have included: An Esoteric Study of King Lear; The Way of the Sage; Hormonal Self-Control; and The Future Mystery Schools. There is also a remarkable long-running series on the pioneering 'Forerunners' in the life of humanity. These servers have included Thomas Paine, Charles Darwin, Josephine Butler, Teilhard de Chardin, Carl Jung, Albert Schweitzer, Helen Keller, and many others.

THE EDITORS are pleased to receive articles for consideration which are in keeping with the aims of the Beacon.

THE BEACON is published six times a year and is mailed to subscribers all over the world. All knowledge is a form of light, for it throws light into areas of awareness of which we have hitherto been unconscious All wisdom is a form of light, for it reveals to us the world of meaning which lies behind the outer form. All understanding is a form of light, for it causes us to become aware of the causes which are producing the outer forms which surround us.
